A335/SA335 Grade P22 Alloy Steel Seamless Pipes are Carbon steel pipes with addition of chromium, molybdenum, and sometimes vanadium. Chromium, or chrome, improves high-temperature strength, increases oxidation resistance and raises the tensile, yield and hardness at room temperatures. Molybdenum increases the strength, elastic limit, resistance to wear, impact qualities and hardenability. It increases the resistance to softening, restrains grain growth and makes chromium steel less susceptible to embrittlement. Moly is also the most effective additive for increasing high temperature creep strength, or creep resistance, and it also enhances the corrosion resistance of steel and inhibits pitting. Grade P22 is used for high temperature service applications and is tolerant to variations in its microstructure.

Inspection & Test

Hydrostatic test shall be performed on each pipe length of ASTM A335 P22 along with dimensional inspection and visual examination. Longitudinal or transverse tension test, flattening test, or bend test shall be performed for each heat number of furnace. When specified by the purchaser, one of the alternative nondestructive tests can be performed: ultrasonic test, eddy current test, or flux leakage examination. Hardness test is not necessary.

ASTM A-335M Grade P22 tube Packaging & Shipping

ASTM A335 P22 Steel Pipes may be furnished bare or coated and with capped ends. Tubes and pipes up to 3" OD will be supplied in bundles. In order to prevent rust during sea shipment, bundles of ASTM A335 P22 tubes may be wrapped with polypropylene sheets, and secured with flat steel bands. Over 3" OD will be supplied loose.
